Aggies to fall to No. 10 Flames in 2021 season opener

UC Davis returns to action vs. Dartmouth on Sept. 3

DAVIS, Calif. -- Fourth-year forward Brooke Sanchez scored off her own rebounded shot in the 48th minute to put UC Davis on the board, but the Aggies ultimately fell to 10th-ranked Liberty by a final of 7-1 in a non-conference collegiate field hockey match at the Aggie Field Hockey Facility Friday morning.

The Aggies open their season at 0-1. The Flames, ranked in the NFHCA preseason poll, moves to 1-0.

Liberty received a hat trick from senior forward Jill Bolton, who netted shots on the 34th, 38th and 47th minutes. The Flames outshot their hosts by a 23-10 margin, including 8-0 in the first quarter. UC Davis' fifth-year midfielder Madison Theodore had five of her team's attempts, including a pair on goal.

Aggie goalkeeper Kalli Wagnon registered five of her six total saves in that opening quarter, after which Liberty held a 2-0 lead. The Flames held that margin at halftime, then stretched their lead to 6-0 through three. Bolton's hat-trick goal made it 7-0 before Sanchez answered with 12:32 remaining to put UC Davis on the board.

UC Davis returns to action on September 3 for a 3 p.m. matchup against Dartmouth.
