DAVIS, Calif. -- A total of 24 UC Davis football players earned spots on the 2020-21 Big Sky Conference Fall All-Academic team, the conference office announced Monday morning. A total of 1,133 student-athletes from 13 member institutions were honored by the league, for which the Aggies are affiliate members in football.
To qualify for the award, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, completed at least one academic term at the current institution, and appeared on his/her team's active roster. The requirement for minimum playing time was waived for 2020-21 due to COVID-19, resulting in a record-high number of honorees. UC Davis' previous high was 15, set by the 2019 team.
This marks the third straight honor for long snapper John Aloma and wide receiver Carson Crawford. Erron Duncan, Jordan Ford, Garren O'Keefe and Blake Thorpe are now second-time selections to the fall All-Academic rolls.
The Aggies went 3-2 during their spring football season, finishing in a tie for third in the Big Sky and holding No. 14 and No. 16 final national rankings by media and coaches, respectively. The 2021 fall season kicks off at Tulsa on Thursday, September 2.
