2023: BIG SKY CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK for November 20^th…BIG SKY ALL-CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM for Defense…BIG SKY CONFERENCE FALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM…Was fifth in the Big Sky Conference in interceptions per game (0.3)…Played in all 11 games…Had a team high 71 tackles (32 solo, 39 assisted)…Had five tackles for loss for a total of 21 yards…Had two sacks for nine yards…Had team high three interceptions…Had two quarterback hurries and one pass breakup…Recorded season high 11 tackles against Portland State on November 4^th…Recorded season high two tackles for loss against University of Montana on October 7^th…Recorded season high two sacks against Montana…Had season high two interceptions against Sacramento State on November 18^th…Had one quarterback hurry on two occasions (vs. Southern Utah on September 16^th and vs. Sacramento State on November 18^th)…Recorded pass breakup on October 14^th against Weber State

2022: TEAM CAPTAIN… BIG SKY ALL-ACADEMIC… BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Oct. 31)… Played and started in seven games at linebacker… Registered 43 total tackles with 28 solo stops… Second on the team with three interceptions… Tallied three tackles for loss… Broke up two passes and recorded two quarterback hurries… Forced and recovered one fumble… Opened the season with eight tackles and an interception at Cal (Sept. 3)… Tallied 10 tackles and forced a fumble at No. 2 South Dakota State (Sept. 10)… Had two interceptions and five tackles against Cal Poly (Oct. 29)… Capped off the season with 10 tackles at Sacramento State (Nov. 19).

2021 FALL: Paced the team with 74 total tackles, including 40 solo stops in 12 games played … Registered two sacks, two interceptions, a quarterback hurry and 5.5 tackles for loss … Garnered the MIKE WISE AWARD at the end of the year banquet honoring the Most Outstanding Freshman … Totaled five or more tackles in nine of the 12 games played and five or more solo tackles in three contests … Registered his first career collegiate sack and interception in the win on the road at Tulsa (9/2) in the season-opener … Boasted 11 total tackles at Idaho State (10/9) … Named Big Sky Fall All-Academic.

2021 SPRING: Totaled 19 tackles (15 solos, 4 assists) in five games as a reserve WLB... Made collegiate debut with 5-0-5 tackles chart at Idaho (3/6), then totaled season-high 6 stops with a 1-yard TFL vs. Cal Poly (3/20) two weeks later... Made Big Sky Fall All-Academic Team. 

ST. IGNATIUS HS ’20: Competed for coaches John Regalia (football) and Mike Kennedy (track & field)... Selected as Player of the Year for both the Central Coast Section and West Catholic Athletic League Player as a senior... Two-time All-WCAL first-team selection... Helped team to share of 2019 conference title after handing Serra HS its first loss... Starred at both quarterback and linebacker... As a senior, completed 71 percent of passes (205-for-249) en route to 1,785 yards and 18 TDs on offense, while recording 83 tackles, 6 sacks, 5 hurries, 3 forced fumbles and 2 recoveries on defense... Also a jumper (long, triple, high) for track & field team, placing 2nd in both horizontal jumps at the 2018 WCAL Finals.

PERSONAL: Born in Palo Alto, Calif.... Parents are Kim Buchanan and Arron Smith... Has dedicated more than 100 hours of service, including a mentoring program for disadvantaged freshmen... Selected to participate in Big Sky U leadership and professional development series in "Aspring Administrators and Coaches" track in winter of 2021.
