DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis will visit Irvine for the second time in as many weeks when it faces Hawai'i in Friday's First Round matchup at the 2021 Big West Conference Women's Tennis Championship. Live stats for this quarterfinal are available by

This is a rematch from the Big West's last postseason tournament, which took place at the Indian Wells Tennis Center on April 26, 2019, since the conference's 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID. Even though UH took that matchup, the only one in program history between these teams in the postseason, UC Davis won this season's dual when the Rainbow Wahine visited campus earlier this month.
By winning their final four duals of the season, the Aggies captured the No. 4 seed and enter this week's postseason tournament as the league's hottest team.
The winner of Friday's 8:30 a.m. matchup will face either No. 1 UC Santa Barbara or No. 8 UC Riverside in Friday's 9 a.m. semifinal; whichever team emerges with a victory will advance to Saturday's 9 a.m. title match, compete for a postseason crown and the BWC's automatic bid at this year's NCAA Tournament.
When UH visited the Marya Welch Tennis Center on April 11, in the first of its season-ending four-match road swing, the Aggies won the doubles point and three of five singles matchups to defeat the Rainbow Wahine, 4-2, to earn their second head-to-head win in their last three home duals.
During doubles play,
Shirley Hall/
Michelle Zell and
Yana Gurevich/
Kristina Evloeva won their respective matches to give UC Davis an early 1-0 overall lead.
Hawai'i responded by winning the first two singles points, but saw the Aggies battle back and win the match by taking the next three available team points, thanks to straight-set results from
Sara Tsukamoto,
Lauren Ko and Evloeva.
That victory versus the 'Bows kick-started the Aggies' four-match win streak, which includes results against UC Riverside, at UC San Diego and at UC Irvine. For UH, that result marked the second of four-consecutive losses, a streak that ended in last Sunday's season finale at UC Riverside.
