ORONO, Maine — Shannon Wong and Izzy Porco scored within a two-minute timespan during Saturday morning's neutral-site game at UMaine Field Hockey Complex in Orono, Maine, to give UC Davis a 2-1 lead midway through the first quarter of its America East Conference matchup vs. Monmouth.

That score remained as is until the Hawks recorded the only goal of the second quarter, which pulled them even with the Aggies at two entering halftime.

Even though Monmouth scored twice in the third period, Shea Gavin found the back of the cage to cut that deficit in half. Unfortunately for UC Davis, time ran out on its comeback attempt as the Aggies dropped the first of consecutive games played on Maine's home turf by a 4-3 result.

UC Davis will return to UMaine Field Hockey Complex for Sunday's 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET season finale against the Maine Black Bears with a 1-9 overall and 0-7 conference record. Monmouth ended its regular season schedule at 9-2 and 7-1, and currently sit atop the league's standings.

Responsible for the Aggies' first goal of a game played in rainy and overcast conditions, Wong beat Monmouth's goalkeeper on one of 11 corners drawn by her team throughout the morning. Two minutes later, Porco broke a 1-1 tie by redirecting a shot that was originally taken by Madison Theodore.

After successfully pulling the Hawks' keeper away from her cage late in the fourth quarter, Porco recorded UC Davis' final goal by punching a shot that rolled inside the far post, which pulled her team within one goal.

In addition to earning twice as many corners compared to a Monmouth squad that finished with five, the Aggies also out-shot their opponent 15-14. Theodore was responsible for a team-high three shots; Gavin and Porco each posted two shots on goal to lead UC Davis in this category.

Field hockey fans can watch Sunday morning's regular season finale, for both teams, through a live stream or live stats provided by Maine.
