DAVIS, Calif. – After earning wins in four of its last six games, UC Davis will return to Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium for its next Big West series, starting with Friday's 2:30 p.m. matchup against Cal State Fullerton. The series will continue with Saturday's 12 p.m. doubleheader before concluding on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
A live stream and live stats are available for all four games, Will Wyman and Ryan Cohen will call the action for Friday and Sunday's video broadcasts.
Â
The last time these teams met, which took place in 2019 since last year's league schedule was canceled due to COVID-19, the Aggies took two of three from the Titans on their home diamond. After winning the first game of that series, 3-1, UC Davis was edged 11-9 in an offense showcase that took place at Goodwin Field.
Â
UC Davis ended that weekend by scoring a run in the eighth and ninth innings of the series finale, which turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory.
Â
Wins are something the Aggies collected on numerous occasions in recent weeks; including its split at CSU Bakersfield last weekend, UC Davis also won its last two home games in walk-off fashion, following by a blowout victory on Easter.
Third baseman
Jalen Smith has shined throughout that block of action, leading the Aggies at the plate with his .464 average and 13 hits. Of that hits total, two were for extra bases as he is responsible for one of the team's 11 doubles and one of its three triples.
In addition to
Cooper Morrison, Smith also swiped a team-high two bases in as many attempts.
Â
Kyler Arenado's last two weeks have been successful ones as his .421 average is second only to Smith. His eight hits also rank him second among all Aggies in recent games; his five doubles are nearly half of the team's total earned throughout the last six played.
Â
Jake Spillane and
Brett Erwin lead the Aggies' pitching staff as each picked up a win, and hold two of the staff's lowest ERAs. Spillane did not allow an earned run in last Friday's 5-0 victory at CSUB and
Brett Erwin allowed only two earned runs throughout his 14 combined innings thrown, which took place throughout a pair of appearances.
 Â
As is the case with the Aggies, Cal State Fullerton will also enter this weekend's series with four wins in its last six played. After recording a win at UC Riverside, the Titans split their two-game series at San Diego after Cal State Bakersfield was forced to cancel its series vs. CSF.
Â
During last weekend's home series against Cal Baptist, the Titans won the first two games but dropped the series finale.
Â
Junior right-hander Tanner Bibee is responsible for four of the Titans' 12 victories, holds a team-low 2.70 ERA and struck out 41 throughout 53.1 innings pitched, both team-high figures.
