DAVIS, Calif. – Off since March 28, UC Davis showed zero signs of rust when it returned to action in Sunday's Big West Conference home dual versus Hawai'i as women's tennis won the doubles round, and three of the first five singles matchups to defeat the Rainbow Wahine, 4-2.

By kicking off a three-match homestand with a victory — the longest of the season and the final one of 2021 — the Aggies will enter Friday's 2 p.m. Causeway clash against Sacramento State with a 5-7 overall and 2-3 Big West record.

Hawai'i will continue its road trip at 5-5 and 3-3.

Shirley Hall and Michelle Zell started Sunday's action with a 6-2 doubles win over Rebecca Ehn and Alexis Merrill, and watched teammates Yana Gurevich and Kristina Evloeva clinch the doubles point for the Ags with their 6-4 victory.

Even though UH held a brief 2-1 overall lead after taking the first two singles contests, UC Davis stormed back to win the next three and turn that deficit into the team's first BWC home victory.

Lauren Ko started the Aggies' string of wins by topping Madison Kim in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-3, which tied the overall match at two. Evloeva followed with a 7-5, 6-0 singles win of her own, which led to an individual sweep of matches played against the Rainbow Wahine throughout the day.

Once Sara Tsukamoto recorded her own straight-set result, by taking her singles match by a 6-4, 6-4 score, action concluded since the overall result was official.

In addition to Sacramento State, UC Riverside will visit the Marya Welch Tennis Center on April 17 in the final home dual of the season for the Aggies.
