DAVIS, Calif. – Prior to the start of Saturday's 2021 home finale vs. UC Riverside, UC Davis women's tennis honored
Shirley Hall in its Senior Day ceremony. Once action commenced, Hall won the first set of her singles match, 6-0, and broke Natalie Shamma's serve leading 5-4, with her opponent up 40-0. By winning four straight, she earned the Aggies' decisive point, which lifted her team to a 4-0 victory versus UC Riverside.
Also defeating their opponents throughout the singles round were
Yana Gurevich and
Carly Schwartzberg; both won in straight sets with the former posting a 6-3, 7-5 result and the latter earning her win with matching 6-3 set scores.
UC Davis opened action with
Sara Tsukamoto and
Lauren Ko posting a 6-3 score in their doubles match against Tia Elpusan and Hanh Pham. Gurevich swept both matches played against the Highlanders when she and
Kristina Evloeva defeated Serena Saltzen and Sydney Tran by the same result.
By ending its final homestand of the year with victories against both opponents, UC Davis will head to Southern California for its final pair of league duals, starting with Saturday's 12 p.m. matchup at UC San Diego, with an overall record of 6-7 and a 3-3 mark against Big West teams.
UC Riverside will continue its season at 0-7 and 0-6.
Following its upcoming match against the Tritons, the Aggies will end the regular season with next Sunday's 11 a.m. dual at UC Irvine. Those events are the final tune-ups for a UC Davis squad that will return to Irvine the following week for the Big West Women's Tennis Championships, which will take place at Irvine Great Park from April 29-May 2.
