STANFORD, Calif. — Following a scoreless first quarter during Monday's designated non-conference game between Stanford and UC Davis, Madison Theodore nearly tied the game at one apiece were it not for the Cardinal's keeper recording a save on the play to protect her team's 1-0 lead entering halftime.

UC Davis remained within striking distance when action resumed and remained within one goal, thanks to its swarming defense, until Stanford found the back of the cage with 4:10 remaining in the third quarter to double its lead.

As action progressed, UC Davis remained close to the Cardinal entering the fourth quarter, and nearly scored six minutes after action resumed, but it was an unfortunate goal scored in the fourth quarter, which took place off a rebound, that allowed Stanford to pull away late in the game and defeat the Aggies, 3-0.

"The team played really well tonight. It's hard when we continue to grow as a team every game, but can't find the result," said junior back Izzy Porco. "Our team is insanely invested in each other and we all play for each other. Tonight, I felt that more than ever.

"Even though It was a defensive battle, I felt that support and the will to work for each other from every line."

Field hockey's current five-game road swing, which started with last week's East Coast trip, will conclude on Saturday when it visits Cal for a 6 p.m. America East contest. UC Davis will head to Berkeley with a 1-5 overall record, Stanford will continue its season at 4-0.

Aggie goalkeeper Kalli Wagnon collected a career-high 13 saves by stopping seven throughout the first half and three in each of the following two periods.

Shea Gavin and Madison Theodore each recorded a team-high two swings and were one of four Aggies who recorded a shot on goal. Audrey Matthew and Jordan Engdahl were the other players who nearly scored for UC Davis throughout the night.

Following Saturday's America East contest at Cal — a video stream and live stats are available for fans to follow the action at Underhill Field — Stanford will visit Aggie Field Hockey Facility on April 9 (4 p.m.) for this year's head-to-head league tilt.
