STANFORD, Calif. — UC Davis true freshman
Alejandro Nava led the pack with a team-low 73 as the Aggies started quickly, but the front nine at the Stanford University Golf Course proved to be their undoing on Thursday, as they tumbled to 27th after day one of The Goodwin.
Nava tied his collegiate career low with his opening round score, playing the back nine at 1-over and carding an eagle on the par-five first hole before finishing at 3-over for the day to sit in a tie for 63rd.
Opening the day's round on the 10th hole, UC Davis combined to play the back nine at 3-over, with
Thomas Hutchison,
Lucas Carper, and
Jacob Westberg, all standing at even-par following the first nine holes. However, the front nine saw the group finish with just two birdies in addition to Nava's eagle to close out the round.
Hutchison's four birdies led the team, standing at 2-under at one point in his round. Westberg was close behind his teammate Nava, standing in a tie for 78th following a 4-over 74, while Hutchison finished with a 6-over 76.
Round two for the Aggies begins on Friday morning at 8:10 a.m., with Stephens the first off the tee on No. 1, followed by Nava, Westberg, Carper, and Hutchison.
