Darkness halts second-round play

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Returning freshman Mark Stephens fired an opening round 74 to stand at 2-over after 18 holes, leading a group of four UC Davis men's golf individuals competing at the ninth annual Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club on Monday.

Darkness halted the second round of play, with most student-athletes having two or three holes remaining. The round will conclude on Tuesday morning prior to the start of the final round.

With three holes to play in his second round, Stephens currently stands at 5-over for the tournament in a tie for 53rd. Meanwhile, fellow returning freshman Michael Shaw, who opened with a first-round 78, is currently 1-under in his second round, thanks to a trio of birdies, with three holes to play, and is tied for 53rd along with his classmate Stephens.

Following an opening round 78, returning sophomore Daniel Kim is even in his second round with two holes remaining and is tied for 58th, while returning junior Shane Muldowney is 2-over with three to play in his second round after opening with a 79, and stands tied for 73rd.

All four are chasing individual leader Clay Seeber of Long Beach State, who is 9-under after a first-round 66 and is currently 3-under in his second round with three to play.
