Aggies ink Epps to National Letter of Intent

DAVIS, Calif. -- The five-time defending Big West Conference champion UC Davis women's basketball team announced Thursday that Nya Epps from Carondelet HS has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career with the Aggies beginning with the 2022-23 season.

"We are thrilled to officially welcome Nya to our Aggie family," five-time Big West Coach of the Year Jennifer Gross said. "We have known Nya for a number of years now and are so excited about what she is going to bring to the team.

"She is an incredible shooter with deep range, who also sees the floor extremely well. On top of her shooting ability, Nya has a high basketball IQ and a strong understanding of team play on both ends of the floor. These abilities make her a perfect fit for our program. She is an amazing person and teammate, and our staff cannot wait to start coaching her!"

Following in the footsteps of her parents, Brian and Katie, who both attended UC Davis, Epps, a 5-foot-10 wing from El Cerrito, Calif., is entering her senior season with the Cougars, fresh off a 2020-21 campaign that saw her average 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists per game as a junior, earning Cal-Hi Sports all-state open division third team honors as well as All-East Bay Athletic League first team laurels.

She was named to the Bay Area Top 25 by the San Jose Mercury News and the San Francisco Chronicle All-Bay Area first team, as well as West Coast Preps All-Bay Area third team and Sports Stars Magazine All-Northern California squad.

Epps spent her first two prep seasons at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, helping the Fighting Irish to the semifinals of the NorCal playoffs and earning All-West Catholic Athletic League first team honors as a sophomore. She earned honorable mention All-Bay Area honors from both the San Jose Mercury News and San Francisco Chronicle, as well as all-state honorable mention honors from Cal-Hi Sports.

Outside of her high school exploits, Epps competes for the Cal Stars EYBL team that won the 2021 EYBL National Championship.
