Aggies clip Eagles' wings in 22-3 victory

Nine different players score led by Fleming's five goals

DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore Ben Fleming finished with five goals to lead a group of four players with hat tricks, while nine different Aggies found the back of the cage, helping the No. 8 UC Davis men's water polo sweep its Friday doubleheader, downing Biola by a 22-3 score on Friday night at Schaal Aquatic Center.

Coupled with its 14-8 win over No. 19 Air Force earlier in the day, the Aggies improved to 14-6 overall and 6-0 in Western Water Polo Association play, running its conference winning streak to 13 consecutive contests.

In its first year, Biola fell to 1-15 overall and 0-7 in WWPA matches.

Fleming's five goals were a career high, surpassing the three he scored earlier this year against UC San Diego and Concordia. Teammates Logan Anderson, Aaron Voggenthaler, and Nir Gross, each recorded hat tricks, while Michael Plastino and Levi Murtaugh also finished with multiple goals in the contest.

The Aggie defense allowed only two goals in the run of play, leading 7-0 before Biola was able to break-up the shutout with a 5-meter goal at the 5:59 mark of the second quarter. An 8-0 run by UC Davis over the course of the second and third quarters put the match well out of reach, and the Aggies finished the contest by scoring six of the final seven goals en route to the win.

Goalkeeper Aaron Wilson stopped five shots in the first half before giving way to Duncan Creed in the second, who made three saves to close out the night. Will Nomura, Voggenthaler, and Connor Norton, swiped three steals apiece as UC Davis finished with 21 total and limited the Eagles to just 17 percent shooting for the match.

The Aggies break from conference play next week, hosting Pepperdine on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. in their lone contest.
