DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis men's soccer alum Ramon Martin Del Campo will continue his professional career in South Florida after signing with the United Soccer League's Miami FC.
Â
"We need to get our winning culture back at Miami FC and to do that we need to bring in winners," said Paul Dalglish, the organization's technical director and head coach. "Ramon has the mentality to put his body on the line and do whatever it takes to win a game of football. He's a true warrior.
"Statistically he is one of the best true defenders in the USL Championship and is the ideal player profile at the heart of our defense."
Â
Del Campo joins Miami FC after splitting the 2020 USL season with the Las Vegas Lights, where he scored twice in seven matches, and OKC Energy, a team he joined last September and was featured in four games.
Â
Prior to 2020, Del Campo enjoyed two successful seasons with Fresno FC. In addition to playing a combined 63 matches and scoring three goals, his skills and leadership on the team's backline helped Fresno earn a berth in the 2019 USL playoffs after finishing third in the Western Conference.
Â
During his UC Davis career, Del Campo anchored the Aggie's defense and played a key role in helping it earn the program's inaugural Big West title and first-ever appearance in the championship game of the league's postseason tournament.
Â
Responsible for captaining one of the stingiest defenses in program history as a senior, a Del Campo-led defense allowed 16 goals and posted a 0.70 GAA in 2014, figures that are the lowest in the program's Division I history and the best among all Big West teams. The Chula Vista, California native was rewarded for his stellar play by receiving National Soccer Coaches Association of America and All-Big West honors.
Â
UC Davis ended that season ranked No. 14 and No. 20 nationally in team goals against and save percentage, respectively.
