DAVIS, Calif. — For the second time during league play, ESPN3 will feature UC Davis in both of its games played throughout the week. The last time this occurred, the Aggies collected victories at Long Beach State and CSUN. A similar experience is the program's goal for the week, starting with Thursday's contest at the Bren Events Center against UC Irvine.
On Saturday, ESPN3 will air the Aggies' 7:30 p.m. road game at Cal State Fullerton.
Calling the UC Davis-UC Irvine return game from Irvine, the second head-to-head meeting in as many weeks for ESPN3's national broadcast, are Rahshaun Haylock (PBP), Dave Miller (Analyst), and Megan Reza (Sideline). Scott Marsh will provide a radio broadcast for Sports 1140 KHTK and its internet audio call on TuneIn Radio throughout the station's channel. Live stats and in-game Twitter updates are also available; fans can access all game day links at Men's Basketball Gameday Central.
UC Davis will head to Orange County following an outstanding defensive effort in its previous game. On the program's Alumni Day, with the 1997-98 NCAA Division II National Championship team in attendance, the Aggies held Cal Poly to 51 points — the lowest total for a Division I opponent this year.
When Thursday's game begins, the Anteaters will face an Aggie squad that leads the league in team free throw percentage (.773), team three-point field goal percentage (.374), team three-point field goal defense (.324) and turnover margin (+1.43). UC Davis' .452 field goal percentage is also the fourth-highest in the league, entering this week's games.
Now that men's basketball is approaching the back-half of its league slate, each game carries extra weight with everyone jockeying for one of eight berths at this year's Big West Tournament. A victory on Thursday will prevent UCI from sweeping the season series, and allow UC Davis to continue its climb up the league standings.
If the Aggies secure their desired result, they will also snap the Anteaters' 10-game Big West home win streak.
Series Record: UC Davis trails 26-18
Last UC Irvine Win: 1/30/20 — H, 80-65
Last UC Davis Win: 3/3/18 — A, 90-84 (2OT)
Series Streak: UC Irvine +3
