Danielsson’s low round leads Aggies in Arizona

Senior fires a final-round 69 to finish at 3-under for the day

PEORIA, Ariz. — Senior Christine Danielsson fired a team-best final-round 69 to finish 3-under for the day, while freshman Jackie Lucena finished at even-par for the tournament to finish in a tie for 32nd, as the UC Davis women's golf team wrapped up play at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., on Monday.

Danielsson's score was a season-low and her lowest since posting a pair of 69's en route to her victory at the Fresno State Classic last season. Meanwhile, Lucena finished with a career-best 216 total over the 54 holes, ending the tournament in a tie for 32nd — the highest finish of her brief Aggie career.

Playing bogey-free golf on Monday, Danielsson posted birdies on No. 15, No. 17, and No. 8, after starting on the back nine en route to her final score, improving by six shots from her opening round performance en route to a 1-over 217.

Fresh off the team's low tournament round with a 67 during Sunday's round two, finished with a 73 on Monday, including playing the back nine at 1-under. Lucena's previous best finish was a tie for 40th at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico to start the year, finishing with a 224.

Senior Rei Nakatani, who shot a 68 in Sunday's second round, ended the tournament tied with Danielsson in 37th at 1-over for the weekend, while juniors Madison Wood and Skyler Wood rounded out the scoring group in a tie for 56th and 87th, respectively.

The Aggies return to the course next week, hosting the second annual Gunrock Invitational at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif.
