SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Aggies dropped a road contest to Big West opponent Cal Poly, taking the doubles point over the Mustangs, but fell 4-1 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
UC Davis moves to 4-7 with the loss, and 1-3 in conference play. Cal Poly improves to 7-1 overall, and 1-0 in the Big West.
Cal Poly won the first match off at No. 3, but the Aggies responded with a 6-2 win at No. 1 from Lauren Ko and Sara Tsukamoto. Kristina Breisacher and Shirley Hall gutted out a 6-4 victory at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point.
Cal Poly won the first four singles matches off to clinch the 4-1 score, winning on the top and bottom two courts.
Hall forced a third set after dropping the opening frame 6-1, and was down 2-4 in the third set, while Yana Gurevich was leading 4-6, 6-1, 4-3 when the matches were left unfinished.
The Aggies return to Marya Welch Tennis Center next weekend for another pair of Big West Conference matches, hosting CSUN on Feb. 29, and UC Irvine on Mar. 1.
