DAVIS, Calif. — For the second time this season, UC Davis will face the same opponent twice, in as many weeks, when UC Santa Barbara visits The Pavilion for Thursday's 7 p.m. Big West matchup. These teams will square off once again next Saturday (Feb. 22) in the back-half of the Aggies' annual Central California road trip.
Tipoff for Thursday's home game is set for 7 p.m. This league contest will take place during Fan Feast; students, faculty, staff, and the public can purchase an all-you-can-eat meal, available on the upper concourse, while enjoying UC Davis basketball.
In addition to a video stream on BigWest.TV, Sports 1140 KHTK will provide an audio broadcast over the airwaves and through its TuneIn Radio channel. Links for tickets, live stats and in-game Twitter updates are available by visiting Men's Basketball Gameday Central.
A unique trend took place in recent seasons involving this all-UC matchup: The road team won each of the last five head-to-head games. UC Davis was the last to earn a victory on its own court; that result took place on January 4, 2017.
If this year's stats offer a preview of this week's action, prepare for another hard-fought and thrilling league contest. Both teams are ranked No. 3 in the league with matching 72.00 points per game averages, both teams are shooting a league-high .769 at the free throw line and are separated in the Big West standings by only one game.
In a unique scheduling quirk/coincidence, the two teams tied for third, that sit above UC Davis in the league's fixture will visit Davis this week, giving the Aggies an opportunity to quickly climb the standings and separate themselves from everyone else. Entering this week's slate of games, three teams have five league victories to their credit, another four sit one win behind with four.
Even through UC Santa Barbara's .470 field goal percentage is the top clip in the league — the Ags are No. 3 with their .455 figure — UC Davis holds a clear advantage from three. Not only does it possess the No. 1 percentage (.381), it also holds the best percentage on defense with opponents shooting a paltry .328 from behind the arc.
By comparison, UCSB is ranked No. 7 with its three-point percentage (.339) and its three-point percentage defense (.355).
Series Record: UC Davis trails 30-11
Last UC Santa Barbara Win: 1/17/19 — H, 69-58
Last UC Davis Win: 2/9/19 — A, 61-57
Series Streak: UC Davis +1
