High winds cancel final day of Battle at The Rock

Aggies' spring debut postponed in Westbrook Spring Invitational in Arizona on Feb. 23-24

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — With play shortened to a single round after high winds canceled the first 36 holes on Monday, hope sprung eternal on Tuesday morning at the Battle at The Rock in Riverside, Calif., as the weather subsided and allowed play to begin.

However, with most teams through only six holes, Mother Nature reared her ugly head as the winds returned, halting play until the decision was finally made to cancel the remainder of the play.

With the National Weather Service issuing a high wind warning for the area, the forecast called for winds ranging from 20-35 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 60 mph.

Prior to the stoppage, the Aggies were in fourth place as a team at even par, with junior Skyler Wood tied for second at 1-under and birdies on the first three holes. Sister Madison Wood was in a tie for 10th at even-par, followed by freshman Jackie Lucena at 1-over, and senior Rei Nakatani at 3-over. The fifth member of the UC Davis group, senior Christine Danielsson, had yet to start her round.

Tuesday's cancellation means that the Aggies will now officially make their spring debut — weather permitting — on Feb. 23-24, in Peoria, Ariz., at the Westbrook Spring Invitational hosted by Wisconsin at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.
