DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis will wrap-up its weekend in Santa Clara on Saturday when it faces the Idaho State Bengals in the final game of the Bronco Invitational for each team. Tipoff from the Leavey Center is set for 1 p.m.
Since Santa Clara is providing video streams of its games only, Aggie basketball fans can listen to Scott Marsh's call on Sports 1140 KHTK or through the station's
internet audio broadcast.
Live stats are also available for the first head-to-head matchup in UC Davis' Division I history.
Even though Idaho State holds a 3-0 lead in the all-time series, the Aggies have not faced the Bengals since Dec. 9, 2006 — the final season of their transition to the Division I level.
In Friday's game at the Bronco Invitational, UC Davis' defense frustrated Santa Clara,
Ezra Manjon (last season's Big West Freshman of the Year) posted his second 20-point total in as many games (something he accomplished four times in 2019-20) and
Cameron Ba showcased his long-range shooting skills by finishing with a career-high 14 points.
Of Ba's eight baskets made throughout the first two games of the season, a team-high five are from behind the arc.
Manjon,
Damion Squire and Ba are averaging double figures and lead the team with their respective 23.0, 14.0 and 12.5 ppg averages.
When the Aggies take the court on Saturday, they will face a young Idaho State squad that has only five returning letterwinners. Joining the program for third-year head coach Ryan Looney are 11 newcomers — a total that includes six true freshmen.
Leading the way for ISU is Tarik Cool, a senior guard who averaged 18.3 points a game and shot 58.7 pct. from the field (88-150) over the final 12 games of the 2019-20 season. He scored 20 or more points in seven of those 12 games, averaged 5.3 rebounds, recorded a combined 14 blocks and 12 steals during that timespan.
After suffering a 62-49 loss to Santa Clara in their Bronco Invitational opener on Wednesday, the Bengals fell to Nicholls State, 70-51, in Friday's matchup.
