Big West
DAVIS, Calif. — In recent seasons, no Big West matchup provided more instant classics than UC Davis and UC Irvine. Always an intense battle between two of the league's top programs, games featuring these teams are hard-fought and extremely entertaining for basketball fans across the country.
The latest chapter of this rivalry will begin on Thursday when the Anteaters visit The Pavilion for the first of two head-to-head contests in as many weeks. Next Thursday, it is the Aggies' turn to travel when they head to Orange County for a 7 p.m. return game at the Bren Events Center that will air nationwide on ESPN3.
In addition to BigWest.TV's video stream of this week's clash, basketball fans can listen to Scott Marsh's call on AM 1380 The Answer or the station's TuneIn Radio channel. As is the case with every men's basketball game this season, links for live stats and in-game Twitter updates are available at Men's Basketball Gameday Central by visiting UCDavisAggies.com.
Even though UCI won both games played last year, the Aggies won four of their last seven played against the Anteaters. Included in that list of victories is the championship game of the 2017 Big West Tournament and a double-overtime road game that took place on March 3, 2018 — a result that led to UC Davis winning another league title on the final day of the regular season.
Thursday's matchup will feature two of the league's top offenses:, UC Davis is ranked No. 3 with its 71.90 ppg average while UC Irvine is No. 2 at 73.38 ppg, and two of the Big West's top shooting teams since each hold a .456 overall field goal percentage.
As has been the case for most of the season, UC Davis enters another week ranked No. 1 among all conference teams with its free throw (.765) and three-point percentages (.370); UC Irvine's + 7.76 scoring margin is the best in the BWC.
So what do all of these numbers mean?
Don't miss another thrilling matchup between these teams, make sure you purchase your tickets for Thursday's home game and prepare to show your Aggie Pride all night long.
