Box Score
UC Davis out-shot and out-saved the Michigan State Spartans for all of regulation and one overtime period but it was a score less than a minute into the second overtime that handed the Aggies a 2-1 loss on Friday evening.
Sophomore
Shannon Wong put the Aggies ahead a little over 12 minutes into the second quarter with her first goal of the season off an assist by senior
Sara Janetzky in a first half that saw senior goal keeper
Chelsea Bigelow make four saves and UC Davis outshoot the Spartans 5-4.
That lead would hold until Michigan State's Nienke Bloemsaat scored with 3:43 left in the third period, another period where the Aggies out shot Michigan State (4-3).
Battling through a scoreless fourth that saw Bigelow make two more saves, and the first 10-minute overtime period, Michigan State found the back of the cage just 47 seconds into the final 'sudden death' period.
With her second quarter assist, Janetzky now leads the Aggies with three points on the season.
The loss moves UC Davis to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 on this first road trip of the season. UC Davis will play one more game at Ralph Young Field in East Lansing, this time against Louisville on Monday at 8 a.m. PST.
Louisville, who will see Michigan State on Sunday, entered the weekend 3-0 with 10 goals already on the season.
Following Monday's game, UC Davis will travel to Mount Pleasant for a date with Central Michigan on Tuesday, Sept. 10 to conclude their first road trip of the season.
