Aggies open play in Portland in eighth

Nakatani in a tie for 14th to lead the way for UC Davis

PORTLAND, Ore. — Senior Rei Nakatani was the biggest mover of the day for the UC Davis women's golf team, shooting an even-par 72 in her second round on Monday afternoon to jump 16 spots and end day one of the Molly Murphy Crowley Collegiate Invitational in a tie for 14th at the Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore.

The Aggies stand eighth as a team after 36 holes, leading Colorado State by five strokes in the standings. Stanford, which shot 3-over as a team, leads the tournament by seven strokes over second-place Oregon. The Cardinal's Andrea Lee stands atop the individual leaderboard after finishing with a 4-under-par 140 after the first two rounds.

Nakatani closed out a stellar first month of the season with a huge second round on Monday, opening on the fifth hole and bouncing back from a bogey on seven with a birdie on 12, then playing steady golf over the final 10 holes. She was six shots better than her opening round 78, placing her at 6-over for the day and in the top 15.

Most of the field struggled in the opening round as all but four of the 63 players finished at par or higher for the first 18 holes.

Junior Madison Wood and senior Yoonhee Kim were the next highest finishers for the Aggies in a tie for 38th, shooting a 12-over-par 156, while senior Christine Danielsson improved by four shots from her first to seconds rounds, finishing in a tie for 43rd at 14-over.

Freshman Jackie Lucena rounded out the UC Davis group, finishing in a tie for 50th at 15-over.

The final round begins on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., with the Aggies beginning on the back nine grouped alongside players from Colorado State and Oregon State. Live scoring will be available at the GolfStat website at: http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=19773.
