STOCKTON, Calif. -- Sophomore Tanner Murray had himself a day at the plate on Tuesday, picking up four hits, but it wasn't enough to help UC Davis grab the victory over Pacific, as the Aggies fell by the score of 13-8.
Junior Justin Smith took the loss for UC Davis, which dropped his record to 0-1. Junior Daniel Vitoria earned the win for Pacific, improving to 1-0 on the season. The Aggies defeat puts their 2019 record at 10-15. With the victory, Pacific improves to 17-16 this year.
UC Davis used junior Andres Lara and six other pitchers to complete the ballgame. Lara threw the game's first 3.0 innings, giving up no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out one. The other six hurlers combined to allow 13 runs on 12 hits, walk three, and strike out three.
All together, UC Davis pitchers allowed the 13 Pacific runs, all earned, on 12 hits, walking three and fanning four.
In the batter's box, UC Davis was led by sophomore Joseph Myers, who went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, picking up two walks along the way. Murray furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 4-for-5 with two doubles. Senior Caleb Van Blake also helped out for the Aggies, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Alex Leforestier led the attack for the Pacific lineup, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs on the day.
Collectively, UC Davis plated their eight runs off of 15 hits, six of which went for extra bases. The Aggies improved on their attack by drawing four free passes from Pacific pitchers. When they did swing the bat, UC Davis was clutch at the dish. The Aggies went 5-for-16 with runners in scoring position, with Van Blake accounting for two of those hits.
The Aggies are back in action on Friday (Apr. 12) against Big West Conference colleague Cal Poly at Phil Swimley Field beginning at 2:30 p.m.
