Yau strengthens talented incoming class

DAVIS, Calif. — Archbishop Mitty High School standout Danielle Yau signed with UC Davis field hockey and will join the team when preseason workouts begin this summer, as announced by head coach Britt Broady on Friday.

"Our connection with Justina Williams' Archbishop Mitty program continues with the addition of Danielle Yau," said Broady. "Danielle was the first prospect to contact me after I arrived at UC Davis and I'm excited to finally have her join the team. With her game sense and athleticism, Danielle's versatility can be added to our backfield or midfield lines. It will be interesting to determine where her strengths of quick hands and vision can best contribute to the team," Broady added.

A four-year varsity letter winner as a forward for the Archbishop Mitty HS field hockey team, Yau helped her squad to three consecutive Santa Clara Valley Athletic League titles from 2015 to 2017 as well as a share of the 2018 CCS Championship title during her junior season. After earning BVAL All-League first team distinction as a freshman, the Milpitas-native was named Sophomore of the Year in 2016 and picked up BVAL All-League second team accolades as a junior. Yau then wrapped up her decorated career for the Monarchs earning All-SCVAL second team honors as a senior.

Yau's on-turf success also carried over into the classroom, earning honor roll status through all four years of her academic career in addition to earning a spot on the Principal's Honor Roll in 2017. The Monarchs were also named Central Coast Section Scholastic Team Champions over three consecutive seasons (2016-18).

When she's not on the turf or in the classroom, Yau spends her summers working at Camp Krem volunteering with children who have mental and physical disabilities.

Yau joins Sunnyvale-native Andrea Delfino as one of six signees for the incoming class of 2019 after each committed to further their academic and athletic careers at UC Davis. All six will join their new teammates when pre-season workouts begin this summer.
