Big West
DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis will enjoy a nice luxury heading into the final week of the season: playing its final two games at home since no Big West team holds a higher home win percentage, since the start of the 2014-15 season, than the Aggies.
With most Big West teams battling for the best possible seeding at next week's league tournament — UC Irvine locked up the top seed, UC Riverside and Cal Poly are fighting to claim the eighth, and final spot — Thursday's game vs. Hawai'i is the most intriguing league matchup of the night. In addition to the Aggies and Rainbow Warriors, CSUN holds a 7-7 league record in this three-way tie for fourth — which is why UC Davis' upcoming game is an important one.
After visiting Davis, UH will head to Cal State Fullerton for its final game of the season; CSUN will host UC Santa Barbara before ending its regular season slate at UC Irvine. This is why the Aggies' home court advantage is an important one, because they are the only ones, among the top six teams, to compete on their own court in the last two games of the regular season.
Both UC Davis and Hawai'i also want a win Thursday night since the No. 3 seed is still up for grabs, since UC Santa Barbara sits only one game ahead of the trio of teams with a 7-7 record.
A UC Davis victory will give it a split of the season's series, and extend the team's home win streak against the Rainbow Warriors to three. And as tough as UH is to face at home — it won 13 of 18 games inside the Stan Sheriff Center this season — the 'Bows only won two of its seven road games.
This game will feature two teams that have been phenomenal in protecting the ball all year long; in addition to forcing a BWC-high 14.5 turnovers per game, UC Davis also leads the league with its +1.1 turnover margin. UH is No. 2 with its +0.6 margin.
