Another record for Big West Player of the Week Bertsch

Senior ties conference record with sixth weekly honor this year

DAVIS, Calif. — Another record has fallen for senior biomedical engineering major Morgan Bertsch, who was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week for a sixth time this season and the ninth time in her prestigious career on Monday, after helping UC Davis to its third consecutive league title.

Bertsch's sixth award this season ties a conference record set by Cal State Fullerton's Genia Miller and UC Riverside's Brittany Crain, who each won six awards during the 1990-91 and 2015-16 seasons, respectively. The Santa Rosa, Calif., native's nine career conference awards moved her into a tie for seventh on the Big West list, sitting alongside Miller and UC Santa Barbara's Lindsay Taylor.

Averaging 25.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game, Bertsch shot just under 62 percent from the field in helping the Aggies to road victories over Long Beach State and UC Irvine, helping UC Davis extend its winning streak to 12 games — the longest such run in the program's Division I history and tied for the sixth-longest in school history.

With her 25 points against the 49ers, and 26 more against the Anteaters, Bertsch has now scored 20-or-more points in each of her last eight contests, and stands just 13 points behind Crain for fourth on the Big West scoring list entering the final two games of the regular season with 2,313 career points. She is the highest scoring senior in the history of the program and stands just 57 points back of her single-season scoring record of 702 points set as a junior last year.

Bertsch enters the final week of the regular season No. 4 in the nation in scoring (23.9 ppg) and No. 6 in points scored (645), while also ranking No. 6 in the country in field goals made (241).

The Aggies welcome Cal Poly on Wednesday (March 6) at 6 p.m., before saluting Bertsch, Karley Eaton, and Kourtney Eaton, as part of "Senior Day" festivities prior to tip-off against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday (March 9) at 2:30 p.m.
