UC Davis tied with Arizona and BYU for 17th place

STANFORD, Calif. -- Freshman Daniel Kim shot a 2-over-par 72 to lead UC Davis during the first round of The Goodwin men's collegiate golf tournament at Stanford Golf Course Thursday. As a team, the Aggies compiled a 15-over 295 total to take part in a three-way split of 17th place after 18 holes.

Washington and host Stanford were the only two teams to assemble below-par team scores. The Huskies lead the team race with a 2-under 278 total, while the Cardinal sit a stroke back at 1-under 279. No. 6 USC and No. 11 California share third place at 6-over 286. Individually, Colorado's Daniel O'Loughlin, Santa Clara's Derek Ackerman and Stanford's David Snyder each closed out at 3-under 67 for a three-way chop atop the medalist leaderboard.

Kim's team low round of 72 put him into a tie for 37th heading into Friday's action. Senior Ryan Han and redshirt freshman Shane Muldowney each shot 4-over 74 for T52rd, while sophomore Thomas Hutchison rounded out the Aggies' counting scores with his 75 round. Senior Jesse Bratz carded an 8-over 78 during Thursday's opening round.

This is the 50th-anniversary edition of The Goodwin, named for Stanford's former coach. A total of 135 players from 27 teams compete on the Farm's 6,758-yard campus course. The tournament continues with 18 holes on each of Friday and Saturday.

UC Davis will compete in the afternoon wave in Friday's second round. Muldowney kicks off the late session at noon on the first tee.
