Game Notes: UC Davis  |  UC Irvine  |  Big West

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis, UC Irvine: Those four words are synonymous with instant classics in recent seasons in what has become the Big West Conference's best, and most entertaining rivalry. Add in another ESPNU visit to the Pavilion, and the stage is set for another hard-fought thriller between teams that are responsible for winning a combined four of the last five regular season championships.

For UC Irvine, Thursday's return game is its first opportunity to clinch the No. 1 seed at the Big West Tournament, and a share of this year's regular season crown. However, the Aggies would love nothing more than to play the role of spoiler by earning a split of this season's series, and preventing the Anteaters from experiencing something that took place last season.

In the final game of the regular season, it was UC Davis that won its third championship in the last four years by beating UCI in double OT on its home court.

Calling the latest chapter of this thrilling rivalry for ESPNU is Sam Farber (PBP) and Caron Butler (Analyst); this game is also available on WatchESPN.com, the ESPN and WatchESPN apps. Scott Marsh (PBP) and Bob Williams (Analyst) will provide a radio broadcast for Sports 1140 KHTK, and the station's TuneIn internet radio channel.

UC Davis has won three of the last four meetings; the odd game out took place in each team's Big West opener by a one-basket difference. This series has been one that's ended in the Aggies' favor more often than not, in recent seasons, since they have also won six of the last nine head-to-head games.

Included in that batch of victories is UC Davis' 50-47 triumph in the championship game of the Big West Tournament, which allowed the Aggies to punch their first ticket to the NCAA Tournament as a Division I program.

The number Aggie fans should keep in mind is 70 since all but two of their wins this season took place when opponents scored 69 or fewer points. Fifty is the magic number for UC Irvine since it is 8-0 when shooting 50 percent or higher from the floor.

UC Davis will enjoy a nice advantage throughout the last two weeks of the season since their final four games will take place on Hamilton Court. Since the 2016-17 season, the Aggies are 17-3 at home.

Series Record: UC Davis trails 24-18
Last UC Davis Win: 3/3/18 - A, 90-84 (2OT)
Last UC Irvine Win: 1/10/19 - A, 71-69 (OT)
Series Streak: UC Irvine +1
