Big West
DAVIS, Calif. – There is a buzz around campus about UC Davis men's basketball and Thursday's ESPNU home game, and rightfully so. When ESPN, and its family of networks visits the Pavilion, nobody turns out in force, or puts on a better show for basketball fans across the country than UC Davis students and fans.
However, there is one thing standing between the Aggies, another nationally televised game from Davis and a home-friendly schedule that includes something no one else in the Big West can claim, and that is Saturday's ESPN3 broadcast from CSUN.
Calling the action courtside for ESPN3 are Trent Rush (PBP) and Richie Schueler (analyst), basketball fans can access their broadcast on ESPN3.com, WatchESPN.com, through the ESPN or WatchESPN app. Scott Marsh will also provide a radio call for 1380 AM KTKZ and its TuneIn internet radio channel.
Men's basketball will face a huge advantage following its final league road game of the season, and that is four games at home. As the only BWC team with this luxury, the most successful conference team at home in recent years will face an opportunity to climb the standings and make one last push entering this year's Big West Tournament.
Before UC Davis enjoys the comforts of home throughout the last two weeks of its schedule, the team will face the Matadors for the second time in as many weeks, with an opportunity to sweep the season's series (and earn its 12th straight head-to-head victory) after defeating them in Davis last Wednesday, 76-59.
Last week, it was UC Davis' defense that shined, and came two free throws away in garbage time from holding CSUN to a season-low point total.
As has been the case throughout the season, the Matadors' duo of redshirt freshman forward Lamine Diane and sophomore guard Terrell Gomez led their team in scoring that night, and will enter Saturday's game as the league's top two scorers at 23.8 and 19.1 points per game.
After seeing its five-game overall win streak snapped at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, UC Davis will look to start a new win streak against a CSUN team that lost its last four games.
Series Record: UC Davis leads 22-19
Last UC Davis Win: 2/13/18 - H, 76-59
Last CSUN Win: 1/19/14 - A, 89-77
Series Streak: UC Davis +11
