SEATTLE, Wash. — Erinn Beattie highlighted day one at MPSF Championships, breaking her previous school record in the pentathlon to take the title. Four other Aggies also recorded personal best performances, and left their marks in the indoor record book. As a team, UC Davis sits in eighth overall with 18 points, just edging out Cal (17), and UCLA (14), to head into day two on Saturday.
Beattie saw three new personal bests en route to a fourth personal best 4,185 point finish, beating the second place pentathlon finisher by over 300 points. Beattie, a regular record-setter in the high jump, enjoyed indoor improvement in the 60m hurdles (8.69), shot put (11.30m), and long jump (5.86m). Her hurdle time was just two hundredths of a second short of the indoor record, while the long jump distance of 5.86m is a new indoor school record. The 11.30m mark for the shot is her best distance, either indoor or outdoor. Beattie has set herself up to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the pentathlon, as her seeding of 4,185 points is good for ninth in the nation, with only a handful of meets yet to compete tomorrow.
Continuing the trend of new personal bests, Stasia Kubicki moves to second on the indoor all-time record book after winning her pole vault flight with a 3.84m vault, good enough for 12th overall. Xjaedah Williams recorded a new personal best in the 60m hurdles, breaking the 9.00 barrier for the first time in her career, finishing in 8.84 for fourth on the indoor record book.
The sprint squad finished one after another in the 60m dash, led by Jazmen Bunch (7.63) tying her personal best time that currently sits tied for fourth in the record book. Kierra Davis (7.64) and Natsumi McGee (7.64) each finished with season-best times. Kirsten Carter (24.32) maintained her standings in the record book for the 200m, bettering her time by a mere three hundredths of a second to cross fourth overall and second in the record books. McGee (25.05) ran a season-best to crack the top-20 overall.
On the distance side of things, Sarah Anderson bettered her seeding by five places, taking home sixth place overall with a personal best time of 17:06.39 in the 5000m run. Anderson's time is the fastest indoor 5000m since 2013, and good for fourth in the indoor record book, sitting just behind Olympian Kim Conley. The first-ever distance medley crew also enjoyed success, finishing second out of the six Big West schools in the race.
The Aggies return to Dempsey Saturday for day two of the MPSF Indoor Championships. Action begins with the high jump at 10 AM, and will conclude for UC Davis at 1:20 PM in the 3000m run.
