DAVIS, Calif. — No. 11 UC Davis dropped both games against No. 4 Cal, and No. 2 Stanford in Saturday's action in the Davis Shoot-Out.
Led by Emma Wright with five goals, the Bears held the Aggies to six in an 11-6 result in favor of the Bears. Senior utility Annie Kutt paced UC Davis with four goals, nearly matching her single-game career-high that she set against Cal in their last game on Jan. 26. Also scoring for UC Davis were redshirt freshman utility Hailey Williams and junior utility Cassidy Smithson. This was just the third career goal for Williams, and the second consecutive scoring game for both Aggies.
In the cage for just eight minutes, freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hooyer played in her third game as an Aggie, and notched an impressive .800 save percent, recording four saves and allowing just one goal against her.
Later in the day, the Aggies took on No. 2 Stanford, and held the Cardinal to a 17-6 result, for just the third game this season where the Cardinal did not score 20 or more goals. Junior attacker Audrey Taylor doubled her scoring this season with her first career hat trick against the NCAA title contender team. Prior to the 2019 season, Taylor had only netted seven total goals, and had a career-high of two goals scored against Sonoma State on Feb. 18, 2017. Adding to Taylor's three, redshirt freshman utility Allyson Clague and junior utility Chloe Robinson scored two and one, respectively. Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Golding and Hooyer each finished the game with five saves, which is a new career-high for Hooyer, breaking her previous high of four saves recorded earlier in the day against Cal.
UC Davis will enjoy a few days off before traveling to the Santa Clara Invite next Saturday, taking on Cal State Monterey Bay at 12:30 PM and Santa Clara at 4 PM.
