Five Aggies Earn 2026 Big West Women's Water Polo Awards

DAVIS, Calif. — Redshirt senior Gianna Nocetti and junior Chelsea Johnson both earn spots on the All-Big West Second Team, while redshirt sophomore Eva Stein and junior Ashley Wallin pick up honorable mention titles. Rounding out the conference nods, freshman HanaLora Abel was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team.

Following the 2025 season, where Johnson and Nocetti were both honorable mention selections, the duo elevated their play to Second Team status this year. This marks the third consecutive year Johnson has earned conference honors and a remarkable fourth straight year for Nocetti, who has secured a Big West nod in every season of her career. This also marks the first career conference awards for Stein, Wallin, and Abel after standout performances during the 2026 campaign.

Johnson, a center defender from Brisbane, Australia, was once again a workhorse for the Aggies, leading the field players in minutes with 542. She proved to be a lethal scoring threat, finishing the season with a career-high 50 goals on 121 shots, shattering her previous personal best of 26 set in 2025. Johnson secured her first career Big West Player of the Week honor following a dominant weekend where she scored four goals against Long Beach State and matched a career-high with five goals in an overtime upset of No. 9 UC Irvine, including two clutch power-play scores in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime. Along with those accolades, Johnson eclipsed the 100 career points milestone this season while anchoring the UC Davis defense.

Nocetti, an attacker from Carmichael, California, capped off her veteran career with her most productive season to date, surpassing all previous season highs in goals, assists, and steals. The relentless attacker found the back of the net 47 times on 117 shots while contributing 41 assists. Nocetti's 2026 campaign featured two Big West Player of the Week selections; her first career distinction followed an 11-goal weekend at the Brigitte Donner Daws Memorial Invitational, and her second came after a dominant stretch of hat tricks against UC San Diego, Brown, and Cal State Fullerton, assisting in the 12-11 victory over No. 15 UCSD, marking the program's first regulation victory over the Tritons since 2022. This year, Nocetti reached major career milestones by surpassing 100 goals, 100 assists, and 200 total points. Her defensive pressure was equally impactful, racking up a career-best 40 steals.

Stein, a goalkeeper originally from Park City, Utah, was a force to be reckoned with, playing a massive 759 minutes for the Aggies. She faced 612 shots and recorded a significant 223 saves on the season—nearly doubling her previous season high of 128 last year. In addition to her presence in goal, Stein showed her vision and mobility by recording career-highs in both assists (9) and steals (24), besting her 2025 marks of two and eight, respectively.

Wallin, a utility player from Irvine, California, served as the primary engine for the Aggie offense, leading the team in assists. She reached the 100 career points mark and shattered the school record for assists in a season; her 62 assists surpassed the previous record of 48 and obliterated her personal best of 27. Wallin also set new career highs in scoring and defense, putting up 35 goals and 32 steals to beat her 2025 marks of eight goals and 20 steals. Playing 514 minutes, Wallin proved her value as a high-IQ leader in the pool.

Abel, a utility player from Goleta, California, made an immediate impact in her debut season to earn All-Freshman honors. She saw 356 minutes of action, displaying efficiency and growth as the season progressed. Abel finished her rookie year with 11 goals on 24 shots, while adding 6 assists and 17 steals, providing a bright glimpse into the future of the Aggie roster.

Nocetti and Johnson become the 18th and 19th Aggies in program history to be named to the All-Big West Second Team, while the pair of honorable mentions brings the program's total count to 30. Additionally, Abel becomes the 6th Aggie to be named to the All-Freshman team since its inception.
