IN THE POLLS: Neither UC Davis, nor Portland State, are ranked nationally entering Tuesday's game… Following three straight weeks in the College Insider Mid-Major poll to start the year, the Aggies have fallen out of the rankings, but have faced two teams that are either ranked or among those receiving votes on Nov. 26 in No. 23 Santa Clara and Saint Mary's (10 votes).
ABOUT THE VIKINGS: Portland State enters the week with a 2-3 overall record and an 0-2 mark on the road... The Vikings have not played since a Nov. 23 win over Nevada to snap a three-game losing streak... Portland State is 0-1 against the Big West this year, falling by eight against UC Irvine... Junior Tatiana Streun leads a quartet of Vikings in double figures, averaging 14.0 ppg and 8.6 rpg while shooting .585 from the field... Sophomore Desirae Hansen (13.6 ppg), freshman Belle Frazier (11.0 ppg), and junior Kylie Jimenez (10.8 ppg) are also in double figures.
SERIES NOTES: Portland State leads the all-time series with UC Davis by a 10-5 count following a 65-50 victory in the Rose City last season... The two teams last met at The Pavilion back on Nov. 17, 2017, with the Aggies posting a 79-67 win over the Vikings... This will be only the sixth all-time meeting between the two in Davis, with UC Davis holding a 3-2 lead in the previous five games.
CONFERENCE CALL: Saturday's contest will be the third against a Big Sky Conference school this year after the Aggies opened the year against Montana State in Bozeman and defeated Sacramento State on Tuesday night... UC Davis is a combined 44-41 against the current Big Sky alignment, including a 23-14 mark at The Pavilion.
LAST TIME OUT: In a Causeway battle for the ages, senior
Sophia Song's step-back bucket with 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime proved to be the difference as the Aggies broke Hornet hearts with a 77-75 win at The Pavilion.
Cierra Hall's two free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining completed the Aggies' comeback from down 16 to tie the game in regulation and senior
Nina Bessolo's basket with 2:02 left in the first overtime forged a 70-all tie to send the game to a second OT period. Four UC Davis players finished in double figures led by 16 points from Hall and a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double by
Kayla Konrad.
