SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Freshman
Jackie Lucena finished with a final round 75 to finish in a tie for fourth overall, leading a group of four players among the top 20 on Wednesday, as the UC Davis women's golf team finished second at the rain-shortened Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by the University of Washington.
The Aggies, who led after Tuesday's opening 18 holes of play, finished one shot back of champion BYU at 32-over for the tournament and ahead of Rutgers (+33) and rival Sacramento State (+35).
Lucena carded her best finish of the season for UC Davis and her first career top-five, finishing the weekend with a 5-over 149 to lead the Aggie group. The second Aggie to finish in the top five this season after teammate
Rei Nakatani finished third at the East-West Match Play Challenge, the Chico, Calif., native posted her second-lowest round of the season a day earlier with her first-round 74, while Tuesday's 75 is tied for her third-lowest of the year.
Senior
Christine Danielsson posted her second top-15 finish of the season after shooting a 4-over 76 on Tuesday, matching her score from the first round, but climbing two spots in the final standings. Senior
Rei Nakatani, who held a share of the lead after day one, finished in a tie for 13th to claim her fourth top-25 finish in four events this fall, while junior
Madison Wood was close behind in a tie for 16th — good for her second top-25 finish of the season.
Senior
Yoonhee Kim finished in 47th to round out the UC Davis contingent.
It's a quick turnaround for the Aggies, who have one more event on their schedule for the fall. UC Davis heads to the Bay Area this weekend for the three-day Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice beginning Friday (Oct. 11) at the Stanford Golf Course.
