Josephine Ough shared team-high honors with eight kills and hit .385, while senior
Lauren Matias added eight more kills to her season total, but homestanding UC Santa Barbara hit .384 with only eight errors on the night en route to a, 25-9, 25-15, 25-17, victory over UC Davis on Friday at The Thunderdome.
The Aggies, who had won three straight entering the contest, were knocked from the ranks of the Big West Conference's unbeaten with the loss, falling to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Led by nine kills from Talluhlah Froley, the Gauchos improved to 14-1 overall and remained unbeaten at 4-0 in the Big West with the win, snapping a brief two-game winning streak by UC Davis in the series in the process.
UC Santa Barbara, which was one of nine schools among those receiving votes in the latest AVCA coaches poll, hit .500 in the opening set, committing just one hitting error in 26 swings, and followed that up by hitting .444 in the second en route to the victory.
Ough finished the night with her eight kills in 13 swings against three errors as the Aggies, who entered the night ranked third in the league in hitting percentage, were limited to just .052 as a squad.
Matias' eight kills put an end to her double-digit kill streak at six, but inched her closer to a career milestone, giving her 200 for the season and pushing her to within 169 kills of 1,000 for her four years at UC Davis.
Sophomore
Mahalia White added a team-high seven digs.
The Aggies close out their Central Coast roadtrip on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m., heading back up the coast to take on Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
