STANFORD, Calif. — Junior
Madison Wood and senior
Yoonhee Kim each finished at 5-over for the day, while three Aggies were just two shots back, pacing the UC Davis women's golf team against a stacked field during the opening round of the 2019 Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice at the Stanford Golf Course on Friday.
Among the field of 17 schools, nine of those entered the tournament ranked among the top 25 — including six top-15 programs — according to the Women's Golf Coaches Association poll released on Sept. 20.
The top seven spots after day one are all held by Pac-12 schools, led by Arizona State, which fired a 6-under 278 to lead host Stanford by two strokes and third-place Oregon and USC by four strokes. The Cardinal's Angelina Ye holds a one-shot lead after shooting a 4-under 67 on Friday, leading a group of six players tied for second at 3-under.
Kim and Wood are tied for 65th, with the former sinking a pair of birdies and firing a solid 1-over on the back nine, while the latter found success on the front half, firing a 1-over 36 to start off her day.
Seniors
Christine Danielsson and
Rei Nakatani, along with freshman
Jackie Lucena, are all tied for 79th, at 7-over for the day, with Danielsson carding an even-par 36 on the back nine to highlight her round.
The second round of play begins on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m., with the Aggies teeing off alongside USC and California at 11:10 a.m. Live scoring can be found at http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=19969.

MARYA WELCH INITIATIVE
Named after the former physical education instructor, coach and Dean of Women who founded women's sports on the campus 25 years before the passage of Title IX, the Marya Welch Initiative for Women's Athletics provides comprehensive support for UC Davis' 16 women's athletics programs. Through the support of the Marya Welch Initiative and its group members, student-athletes are provided the best possible opportunity to succeed inside the classroom, and in competition, through special project gifts and by increasing visibility and participation at women's events throughout the year.
