Han leads UC Davis after first day at Falcon Invite

Aggies' top two players shot combined 8-under on front nine

USAFA, Colo. -- Senior Ryan Han drained six birdies on the front nine en route to a 3-under-par 69 to lead UC Davis on the first day of the 50th Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational men's collegiate golf tournament at the Eisenhower Golf Club Friday. As a team, UC Davis ranks fourth among the 16-team field, finishing the opening round with a 2-under total of 286.

Han wrapped up his first day of the 2018-19 season in a four-way tie for third place on the individual leaderboard. Aggie sophomore Thomas Hutchison followed closely behind with a 1-under 71 on the day, with birdies on the fifth, sixth, seventh and 11th bringing his score to as low as 4-under by the late morning. He sits in a sizable tie for 10th.

Freshman Daniel Kim made his collegiate debut with an even-par 72 while senior Jesse Bratz carded a 2-over 74 to round out the scoring for the Aggies. UC Davis is only two strokes off the leader, New Mexico State, and one behind Weber State and Colorado.

Individually, New Mexico State's Tadhg Campbell and Mike McGilton hold the top two places in the medalist race.

The Falcon Invitational, held on the par-72, 7511-yard Blue Course, continues through Sunday. The Aggie fivesome of Shane Muldowney, Bratz, Kim, Hutchison and Han will tee off beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
