Allen, Moore earn all-tourney honors at UofA

Reyes posts career-high 30 digs against host Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sophomore libero Ally Reyes more than doubled her previous career high with 30 digs while seniors Emily Allen and Nicola Moore earned all-tournament honors, as UC Davis fell to host Arizona in four sets, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, at the Wildcat Classic women's volleyball tournament at the McKale Center Saturday.

The Aggies move to 8-4 for the year. The Wildcats, among the teams receiving votes toward the AVCA Top 25, improve to 11-1.

Reyes' previous high of 13 digs came against UT Martin on Friday night and at Sacramento State more than a week ago. She is the second UC Davis player to hit the 30-dig threshold, joining teammate Malia Bolko, who totaled 37 against Northern Arizona back on August 26.

Allen led all Aggies with 17 kills and completed a double-double with 12 digs. Moore and Karsseboom each added 10 kills, sophomore setter Paloma Bowman served up a pair of aces, and sophomore middle blocker Alexa Rockas led the UC Davis net defense with five total blocks.

For UofA, Kendra Dahlke recorded 16 kills to lead three Wildcats with double-digit offense. Paige Whipple earned 14 kills and 18 digs.

The two teams battled to seven ties in the opening set, with UC Davis taking a lead as late as 19-17. However, two Aggie attacking errors and two Wildcat kills erased that edge, with Arizona taking the match lead. In the second, Allen, Karsseboom and Moore combined for 14 kills with no errors between them. Karsseboom scored three such points in an 8-1 run that left UC Davis with an 18-10 edge. UofA cut its deficit to a sinlge point on a Devyn Cross kill at 21-20, but a Rockas solo stuff and another Karsseboom kill helped UC Davis finish the set and even the match score.

Arizona pulled away from close battles through the middle stretches of the third and fourth sets to complete the win. Allen had another four kills in the third frame, while junior Lauren Matias hit 3-for-5 in the fourth, but overall, UC Davis hit .083 and .085 in those two set losses, while the 'Cats compiled a .275 average in the finale.

The Wildcat Classic closes out non-conference play for UC Davis, which hits the road to Cal Poly for its Big West opener on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. The Mustangs jumped to No. 14 in Monday's national poll after their back-to-back upsets of then-No. 9 UCLA the week before.
