PORTLAND -- Senior outside hitter Emily Allen scored 12 kills with 15 digs for a double-double, leading UC Davis to a 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 sweep of host Portland State at the Rose City Showdown women's volleyball tournament Saturday.
The Aggies improve to 4-2 for the year. The Vikings slip to 1-5 overall.
Junior Lauren Matias added 11 kills for UC Davis offensively, while senior middle blocker Lauren Jackson tallied four of her team's nine total blocks on net defense. The Aggies also served up eight aces, with two from setters Paloma Bowman and Jane Seslar. Senior libero Malia Bolko picked up 14 digs, one behind Allen's total.
Senior outside hitter Jenna Mullen led PSU with eight kills on 31 swings.
UC Davis returns to action with the Causeway Classic match at Sacramento State on Tuesday. First serve is 7 p.m. at The Nest.
MATCH NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS
• Sophomore middle blocker Alexa Rockas and senior setter Maddie Merlino each had three blocks while Bolko scooped up eight digs in the first set, holding Portland State to just five kills. Rockas and Merlino teamed up for all three stuffs during a 9-2 run that resulted in a commanding 13-6 Aggie lead.
• Allen (6-0-11), Rockas (4-0-9) and Jackson (3-0-4) helped UC Davis hit .325 in the opener.
• The second set featured nine ties and five lead changes, but Allen had a kill and an ace during a 5-1 Aggie finish to the frame heading to the break.
• UC Davis never trailed in the third set, with junior Jackie Graves scoring a kill and a block during a run of five unanswered to an 18-12 lead.
• Allen's double-double is her fifth of the season, third consecutive and 24th of her career. She leads the Aggies offensively at 4.40 kills per set.
