Bolko digs career-high 37 in tourney finale

Allen, Bolko earn all-tournament honors

DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior libero Malia Bolko scooped up a career-high 37 digs while senior outside hitter Emily Allen tallied 20 kills, but Northern Arizona outhit and outblocked the tournament host in a 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20 over UC Davis in the final match of the Aggie Invitational women's volleyball tournament at Pavilion Sunday.

Both teams move to 3-1 for the year.

Junior opposite Lauren Matias and sophomore middle blocker also added 10 kills apiece for the Aggies, with senior Brianna Karsseboom contributing 14 digs defensively toward the team total of 98 ups.

NAU's Heaven Harris led her team with 19 kills, with Kaylie Jorgenson and Jordan Anderson notching dig totals of 23 and 20, respectively.

Lumberjack junior Abby Akin captured tournament MVP honors, thanks to her 41 kills and .340 average for the weekend. Harris and setter Abby Stomp joined her among the NAU honorees. Bolko and Allen represented UC Davis, while Nevada had outside hitters Sam Hayward and Jamila Minor receiving such accolades. Utah Valley's Kristen Allred and Holy Cross freshman Regan Wright also made the all-tournament squad.

UC Davis returns to action at the Portland State Invitational II on Friday and Saturday, taking on Oregon State and the host Vikings on those respective days.

MATCH NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS

• The match featured a total of 28 ties, including eight in the first and fourth sets. The third set also had five lead changes, with a 7-0 run turning a 15-13 Aggie edge into an NAU 20-15 advantage.

• Allen's 20 kills marks her highest total since deliver a career-high 30 vs. Southern Utah back on September 9, 2016. She had six in each of the first two sets.

• NAU hit .357 (18-3-42) and .270 (12-2-37) in the first two sets, respectively. UC Davis went .256 (16-5-43) and .282 (11-6-54) in those same frames. 

• The Lumberjacks totaled 12.0 blocks, with senior Brittni Dorsey figuring on nine (two solo, seven assist).

• Bolko's previous match high was 31, done against Cal State Fullerton in each of the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
