Brandon Baumgarten and junior
Ryan Han each captured Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar accolades, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday.
This is the second such award for Baumgarten, a managerial economics major from Granite Bay, California. He claimed the same award in 2016-17, making him the first two-time Aggie honoree since Joshua Granger (2011-12, 2013-14), and the first consecutive-year winner since Louie Bishop (2005-06, 2006-07).
Han, an aerospace engineering major from Hollister, picks up his first GCAA academic award. This adds to an outstanding 2017-18 season that featured a Big West Conference individual title, first-team All-Big West status, and participation in the NCAA Stockton Regional.
Both Han and Baumgarten also garnered Big West Academic All-Conference earlier in July, and contributed toward their team's earning NCAA Public Recognition Awards for Academic Progress Report back in May.
To earn GCAA All-America Scholar distinction, players must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in at least 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, hold a stroke average of 76.0, and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better. Recipients must also be of "high moral character and in good standing" at his respective institution.
A total of 265 Division I golfers earned All-America Scholar honors in 2018.
