Bratz leads Aggies on Day 1 of Big West championship

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. - Junior Jesse Bratz birdied the final two holes of the Industry Hills Golf Club Eisenhower Course to finish with a 1-under-par 71, leading UC Davis on the first day at the Big West Conference men's championship tournament Sunday afternoon.

Cal State Fullerton leads the team standings with a 6-under total of 282 strokes. UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara are tied for second at 284, with UC Davis holding sixth place with a 5-over 293.

Bratz, who closed out the day in a tie for seventh place on the individual leaderboard, also drained birdies on Nos. 1, 8 and 9 en route to the Aggies' low round. Junior Tanner Hughes sank birds on the first and 18th holes to finish at even-par 72 for a share of 13th. Junior Ryan Han carded a 1-over 73, while freshman Thomas Hutchison turned in a 5-over 77 to round out UC Davis' team score of 293. Senior Brandon Baumgarten shot a 79 in Sunday's action, completing the Aggie lineup.

The UCSB duo of Brandon Bauman and Nick Swanson lead the individual medalist race with scores of 67 and 68, respectively.

The Big West championship, held on the 6,989-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Course, continues through Tuesday.
