DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis men's tennis bumps their wins to two this week and eight for the season after leaving the courts with a 6-1 win over UC Riverside's team at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies set themselves up for success at the beginning of the day by sealing the doubles point and the 1-0 advantage leading into singles play after winning at both the No. 1 and No 3 position. Ivan Thamma and Everett Maltby contributed to one of the two wins after defeating partners Benjamin Kichherr and Nail Abdallah, 6-2, while the other Aggie win came from Mitchell Iwahiro and Arjith Jayaraman's 7-5 win over Pawel Jankowiak and Anderson Ju.

UC Davis continued to outshine UC Riverside's team as they went on to secure five of the six singles match wins. Thamma, Maltby, and Goulak swept the competition at the No. 1-3 spots with their straight-set wins over the Highlander opponents, which helped the home team reach their four-point team score.

Although the team victory already belonged to the Aggies, both teams agreed to play out the remaining singles matches. UC Riverside prevented the shutout by garnering a win at No. 4 singles; however, the home team responded with two wins of their own to finalize the dual at a 6-1 final score.

The fifth and sixth Aggie points were from Tommy Lam and Chethan Swanson, who each scored straight-set wins over the visiting team's players at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.

The UC Davis men's tennis team returns to action next Thursday to kick off their Big West Conference Championships campaign at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
