DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis men's tennis team had their luck turned around on Friday afternoon when they met on the courts with fellow Big West school UC Irvine's team. The Aggies were able to both the doubles point and three singles wins at the Marya Welch Tennis Center to eventually finish the dual at a 4-1 victory over the visiting team.

UC Davis bumps their wins to seven for the 2018 dual season.

The Aggies sealed the doubles point after the first two completed doubles matches, thanks to their wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 position. At the No. 1 position Aggie tandem Ivan Thamma and Everett Maltby defeated the Anteater's Vastal Bajpai and Bruce Man-Son-Hing, 6-3, while David Goulak and Tommy Lam represented the Aggies at the No. 2 position, where they also saw a 6-3 win over UC Irvine's Luca Marquard and Mason Hanson.

Going into singles play, the home team went on to sweep the competition at the No. 1-3 positions, which sealed their four-point team score; however, the Anteaters were able to prevent a shutout by scoring a win at the No. 6 spot. Thamma and Maltby each scored straight-set wins over their opponents playing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while Goulak garnered a three-set win over Marquard, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.

The UC Davis men's tennis team returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they welcome fellow Big West school UC Riverside to campus. This meet will serve as both the home finale of the 2017-2018 season, and an event where the senior class of two will be recognized and honored for their valuable contributions to the program.
