Men's tennis topped by Nevada

April 18, 2018

RENO, NEV. — The UC Davis men's tennis team carried the 1-0 advantage after winning the doubles point over Nevada's team, but it was the home team that eventually went on to seal the final 4-3 victory over the Aggies at the McArthur Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Starting with doubles play, Nevada went on to get the first of two needed doubles match wins in order to seal the doubles point entering into singles play; however, the Aggies pushed through to steal that opportunity away from the Wolf Pack after winning the next two matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 position.

Playing at the No. 1 spot was UC Davis duo Everett Maltby and Ivan Thamma, who defeated Julian Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko, 6-1, while partners David Goulak and Tommy Lam went on to officially clinch the doubles point after receiving a No. 2 doubles win over Robert Margitfalvi and Jeremy Merville, 6-4.

The Aggies temporary had a two-point lead after Goulak scored the first singles win over Margitfalvi due to retirement, but it was short-lived as the home team went on to win the next three singles matches to make the match a 3-2 score.

UC Davis freshman Chethan Swanson was able to bring the game to a 3-3 tie leading into the last unfinished singles match of the day after defeating Peter O'Donovan in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 6 position; however, Augustin Delahodde responded with Nevada's fourth singles win at the No. 5 spot to help the Wolf Pack clinch their 4-3 dual victory over the Aggies.

UC Davis drops to a 6-17 overall record for the dual season.

The UC Davis men's tennis team returns to action on Friday afternoon as they host UC Irvine's team at the Marya Welch Tennis Center for their first of two conferences matches this week.
