Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Aggies ride hot start to 11-8 home win

March 8, 2018

DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore attacker Sorana Larson scored three goals with two assists while junior Shannon Cross added two more scores, as UC Davis rode a run of six unanswered to start the contest into an 11-8 victory over Robert Morris in collegiate women's lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Thursday night.

The Aggies improve to 2-3 for the year. The Colonials dip to 2-5 overall.

Larson had both of her assists in that opening outburst, then completed her hat trick in the final minutes to lead all scorers in the contest. Freshman midfielder Mar Alvear chipped in a goal and two assists for three points. Senior Kate Fellner, sophomore Amanda Outcalt and sophomore Kate Graham each had a goal and an assist.

Meanwhile, junior goalie Grace Richards totaled eight saves and an interception, senior Shannon Geary won a game-high eight draw controls, and senor midfielder Kelsey DeJesus picked up five ground balls.

For RMU, Kerri Sayrafe and Madison Griffin each netted two goals, while senior midfielder Dana Davis led with two assists.
UC Davis never trailed in the contest, as six different players scored in the 6-0 run during the first 13:15 of play. The Aggies held a 9-3 lead at halftime, then extended their advantage to 10-3 on Larson's second goal in the 37th minute.

However, the Colonials scored five of the next six goals to help close the gap, including two in the final 25 seconds of the game. They outshot their hosts by a 14-11 margin and won five of the eight draws after the intermission. UC Davis went from 9-for-16 shooting in the first half to just 2-for-11 in the second.

Overall, the Aggies held the edge in most statistical categories: shots (27-23), ground balls (25-21), draw controls (13-8) and turnovers (20-21). RMU had more caused turnovers with 13, with sophomore Kelly Colegrove leading all players with four.

This closes out a three-game homestand for UC Davis, which begins a string of seven road contests on March 15 in neutral-site action against Albany. That game will take place at Fresno State at 1 p.m.
