HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The UC Davis men's tennis team won three singles matches against host and fellow Big West Conference school Hawai'i, but the Aggies fell to the Rainbow Wahine at a close 4-3 final score at the UH Tennis Complex on Tuesday evening.

UC Davis is now 6-12 for the 2018 dual season.

Hawai'i started off the match with the 1-0 lead after sealing the doubles point at the No. 3 position, and then at the No. 2 position; however, prior to their win, Aggie tandem Ivan Thamma and Everett Maltby clinched a 6-3 match victory at the No. 1 spot over partners Blaz Seric and Aleksa Lazarevic.

The Aggies temporarily brought the team scores to a 1-1 tie after freshman Arjith Jayaraman defeated Fabian Woerhl in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3; however, the Rainbow Wahine pushed through to get the next two singles match wins at the No. 4 and No. 3 position.

UC Davis freshmen Ivan Thamma and Chethan Swanson responded to their opponents' two in-a-row wins with two of their own. Thamma's win at the No. 1 position brought the match to just a one-point difference, while Swanson's win at the No. 6 position officially tied the dual for the second time that day after his three-set victory over Tristan Martins.

Unfortunately, the Aggies fell to Hawai'i in the last unfinished match of the day, allowing the host school to break the tie and leave their courts with a 4-3 conference match victory.

The UC Davis men's tennis team returns to action this Saturday afternoon as they welcome Brown to the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
