April 25, 2017 DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis sophomores Drew Xandrine-Anderson and Natsumi McGee snared two of the four Big West Conference Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, April 23. Xandrine-Anderson was selected as the top male field athlete, while McGee garnered the female track athlete award.
Xandrine-Anderson, originally from American Canyon, California, and Stuart Hall High School, posted the school's No. 2 all-time triple jump during Saturday's Causeway Classic Dual meet with Sacramento State. His mark of 15.74 meters, or 51 feet, 7.75 inches, leads all Big West performers, ranks 14th in the West Region, and places him 28th nationally. Xandrine-Anderson added a fifth-place 6.81m (22-4.25) in the long jump. McGee, who hails from Elk Grove and Cosumnes Oaks High School, had three first-place finishes in the head-to-head meet with the rival Hornets. She won the 100-meter dash at 11.77 for her best wind-legal mark of the year and just .07 short of her personal record. McGee followed with a 24.25 to lead a 1-through-6 UC Davis sweep of the 200-meter dash. Finally, McGee contributed to the Aggies' winning 4x100 relay (along with teammates
Jazmen Bunch,
Kierra Davis and
Mikaela Adolphus), whose time of 45.42 ranks fifth in the school outdoor record book. This is the third and fourth weekly Big West award to go to a UC Davis track & field student-athlete in 2017. Davis won the Women's Track Athlete of the Week nod back on March 21, while
Rianna Goins earned the same on March 14. UC Riverside won the other two weekly awards: hurdler Zach Lewis won Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while jumper Tayler Fleming picked up Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Both Aggie teams compete at Cal's two-day Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
