DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis freshman sprinter Kierra Davis captured Big West Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending March 19, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. This is the second straight week the award as gone to an Aggie student-athlete, as senior Rianna Goins won it on March 14. The Big West weekly awards are voted by the member coaching staffs.

Originally from Upland, California, and a former four-time CIF Southern Section finalist at Upland High School, Davis posted two school top-10 marks during the UNLV Invitational on Saturday. She first posted a personal record of 11.86 in the 100-meter dash, putting her in a tie for fourth in the school record book and making her just the eighth UC Davis woman to break the 12-second barrier with a wind-legal mark. Less than two hours later, Davis finished second with a 23.84 in the 200 meters, making her just the fourth Aggie to break the 24-second milestone in the event. She now ranks third in school annals behind recent greats Ashley Marshall (23.25 in 2013) and Cekarri Nixon (23.74 in 2015). Davis currently ranks third in the Big West in the 200, and fourth in the 100. Her 200 time also puts her 16th among the West Prelim qualifying list. UC Irvine middle distance runner Isaiah Jewett earned the Men's Track Athlete of the Week award, Long Beach State hammer thrower was voted as Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and UC Riverside jumper snared the Women's Field Athlete of the Week nod. UC Davis is in the middle of its final examinations week. The track & field teams will return to action during the spring break with meets in Northern California (Sac State's Mondo Team Challenge, San Francisco Distance Carnival, Stanford Invitational) and Texas (Bobcat Relays, Texas Relays).
